چکیده

Every HCI artefact reproduces a specific stance towards its users. Influential within the academic sphere is the notion of a UserCentered-Design process. However, observing actual design practice renders the assumption of the centrality of users problematic. To this end, the text conducts an exploration of the relationship between discourse within the fields of HCI and architecture. A special focus are the formal expressions of deconstructivism within architecture and their potential counterparts within HCI design.

Deconstructivist Interaction Design: Interrogating Expression and Form

In this paper, we propose deconstructivist interaction design in order to facilitate the differentiation of an expressional vocabulary in interaction design. Based on examples that illustrate how interaction design critically explores (i.e., deconstructs) its own expressional repertoire, we argue that there are commonalities with deconstructivist phases in related design disciplines to learn fr...

Software Design: a deconstructivist feminist approach

Generally speaking, practice-based research on gender and information technology is strongly dominated by feminist approaches emphasizing the difference between women and men. This position paper suggests a deconstructivist feminist approach and outlines how a combination of design oriented research in Computer Supported Cooperative Work, qualitative Software Engineering research and Critical D...

Justice and Design

Within the field of HCI there are a number of preferred approaches towards design. As within other disciplines, these approaches are often irreconcilable. We explore the possibilities of using ethics as a way to bridge the gap and re-establish the design focus of doing good towards the user. This is the idea of ‘justice’ to aid improved design. According to Aristotle, justice is classed as a vi...

Cranfield University Carl Myhill Facilitating the Comprehension of Human-computer Interaction Design Intent within a Software Team Human Factors Technology Group College of Aeronautics

A large proportion of today’s software development is unsuccessful. One reason for this is thought to be lack of attention to the user. Maintaining a user-centred focus during software production is regarded as a major problem. Introducing an HCI designer role into the software team (they usually function as external advisors) is thought to be a means of addressing this problem. Issues surround...

Toward an Afro-Centric Indigenous HCI Paradigm

Current human–computer interaction (HCI) paradigms are deeply rooted in a Western epistemology that attests its partiality and bias of its embedded assumptions, values, definitions, techniques, and derived frameworks and models. Thus tensions created between local cultures and HCI principles require researchers to pursue a more critical research agenda within an indigenous epistemology. In this...
